Another weekend of European football has been done and dusted. There were some huge talking points, from the Lazio vs Rome clash in Serie A to Ansu Fatis's return after 10 months out with a knee injury. Obviously, our first stop has to be Italy. Rome specifically and the Derby Della Capitale. This year's version was intriguing for many reasons, including the fact that it was two former Chelsea bosses in Maurizio Sarri and Jose Mourinho.

It was a cracker of a match and the fans at the Stadio Olimpico saw plenty of goals as Roma went down to the odd goal in 5. “It should not have been 2-0 [for Lazio], It should've been 1-1. We should've had a chance to make it 1-1 with a penalty for us. And the referee decided not to [award it]. It's even more surprising that the VAR decided against it."

He continued with his barrage

"When you lose a game like this, if you want to go to dinner you should go. If you want to go take a walk tomorrow, you should ... because we were the best team on the field and the referee was decisive on the result. The players showed tremendous heart. Obviously, we're sad. But being sad is one thing. It's another thing to be frustrated with your play and with the desire you showed. For me, the players are untouchable."

Elsewhere in Serie A Juventus moved to the first page of the standings with their 3-2 victory over Sampdoria which was marred by the injury sustained to star man Paolo Dybala. The Argentine left the pitch in tears and has been ruled out for Juve's next two fixtures, but word from the club is the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Napoli kept their perfect start alive in a game they dominated against Cagliari with a routine 2-0 home victory. Goals through Victor Osimhen and Lorenzo Insigne in either half confirmed the result.

Inter lost ground on early front runners Napoli and cross-town rivals AC Milan after failing to grab all three points against Atalanta, with the match up finishing 2-2.

In the land of crepes and croissants, it was a case of 'No Messi?, No problems' for French giant PSG as they kept their 100% record in the league with a routine 2-0 victory over Montpellier. In the interest of fairness, it's worth noting that 'La Paillade' was in the match up until the 89th minute. It was then Julian Draxler buried a low-driven shot past Montpellier's keeper Jonas Omlin to put the result beyond doubt. Idrissa Gueye's opening goal was without a doubt the highlight of the match, his 3rd goal of the season already.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Olympique Lyon was held to a 1-1 draw by FC Lorient at home, Stade Reims had a comfortable victory over Nantes 3-1 & at the Stade Velodrome Marseille and Lens fought out an entertaining match that, despite a brace from Dimitri Payet for Les Minots, ended up in a 3-2 victory for the away side.

PSG already has an ominous 9 point lead at the top of the table as their season record moved on to 8 wins from 8 matches. Their focus has surely already switched to the mouthwatering Champions League tie with Manchester City mid-week where they are set to welcome back none other than Lionel Messi from a knee injury.

Over in Germany, Bayern Munich strengthened their grip on the top spot with a routine 3-1 victory over Furth, despite losing Benjamin Pavard to a red card in the 48th minute. Thomas Muller kicked things off before Joshua Kimmich doubled their lead before the halftime whistle with an exquisite strike from range.

Pavard was shown a red card for denying Julian Green a clear goal-scoring chance early in the second half, But Julian Nagelsmans men never really looked vulnerable. Bayern added a 3rd when Kimmich (clearly man of the match) swung in a beautiful free-kick from the right-wing, which was bundled over the line by Furth midfielder Sebastian Griesbeck for an own goal. Momentarily it seemed like Robert Lewandowski had got the final touch on the ball which would have drawn him level on 16 consecutive goal-scoring appearances in the Bundesliga with the legendary Gerd Muller, but it wasn't to be.

The home side gave the fans something to cheer about when a neatly taken header from Cedric Itten gave Furth a consolation goal in the dying embers of the match.

In other notable fixtures, RB Leipzig recorded a thumping 6-0 victory over Hertha Berlin with Christopher Nkunku burying a brace to keep his hot run of goalscoring form going as the Die Roten Bullen added a second win to their season tally and Borussia Monchengladbach handed Borussia Dortmund their second loss of the season with a surprising 1-0 victory at Borussia Park which included a goal from Denis Zakaria for the home side and a red card for Mahmoud Dahoud for the away side.

Our last stop this week is Spain. This weekend's round of matches saw the return of 18-year-old superstar Ansu Fati. He had to make do with a spot on the bench for his return as the Catalan side made a brilliant start to the match finding themselves 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes.

First Memphis Depay won and scored a penalty barely five minutes into the contest and then in the 13th minute USMNT international Sergio Dest played Dutch striker Luuk de Jong in and he made no mistake to double the Blaugrana lead. From that point, it was wave after wave of Barca attack as the carved open the Levante defense over and over again. Aitor Fernandez in the Levante goal would not be beaten though as he turned in a man-of-the-match performance. The big return of Ansu happened in the 81st minute and he looked dangerous from the second he stepped foot on the pitch. He completed the fairytale return from injury with the best goal of the match to give Barca a much-needed 3-0 victory.

Elsewhere there was somewhat of a surprise as Real Madrid was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Villarreal, whilst Sevilla continued their undefeated start to the 2021/22 La Liga campaign with a 2-0 victory over Espanyol and Atletico Madrid were stunned away at Alaves going down 1-0 thanks to a 4th-minute goal from Victor Laguardia
