Premier League Talking Points

MATCHWEEK 3 EDITION

Premier League logo

Match week 3 is done and dusted and this season is shaping up as a classic. League leaders Tottenham, for all their transfer window angst regarding their top star, is the only team to remain undefeated, sitting pretty at the top of the table. Their arch-rivals Arsenal are dead last without a win or goal on the board.

Tottenham Sitting Pretty

Forget about the saga about captain Harry Kane. Tottenham remains the only side undefeated after three matches this season. A superb free-kick from South Korean superstar Son Heung-Min was enough to bank the 3 points and secure a third 1-0 victory in a row.

Nuno Espirito Santo couldn’t have wished for a better start in his new surroundings and would be delighted to have his side top as we head into the first international break. In Son, he seems to have found a new focal point whilst Harry Kane returns his focus to the job at hand.

Spurs fans are in wonderland at the moment. Their arch-rivals Arsenal being the length of the table behind must only make it that much sweeter.

How Are Wolves Without A Point?

Of the three sides sitting in the bottom three positions without a point, this writer has no idea how the boys from Molineux are amongst them.

New head coach Bruno Lage must be wondering if he’s smashed a mirror or something prior to the 21/22 season kicking off. His Wolves outfit has dominated every match so far this season as far as chances created and shots on goal are concerned, admittedly against very tough competition.

This time against a record-breaking Manchester United side, they were very unlucky to concede. A nasty tackle in the build-up to the Greenwood goal from Pogba on Neves arguably should have seen the goal chalked off, but it wasn’t to be.

Surely a trip to Vicarage Road against newly-promoted Watford will see them register their first points.

This Title Race Could Be One Of The Closest In Some Time

Tottenham, United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, and even West Ham (who were right up there last season) have all started the season remarkably well. Let’s have a look at how the frontrunners are shaping up in just one sentence each:

- Tottenham is churning out 1-0 wins in an ominous fashion.

- Manchester United can’t lose away from home and has just signed icon Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club.

- Chelsea has one of the best-drilled defenses in the league

- Liverpool are slowly starting to look like the side that dominated football a couple of years ago

- Man City is redefining football by not just winning, but dominating football matches without a striker.

- West Ham have belief this year along with one of the most in-form strikers in the league in Michail Antonio

If that doesn’t whet your appetite for what we have to come in the most exciting league in the world, I don’t know what will. Shame there is an international break. I can't wait for match week 4.
