The Most Shocking WWE Releases To Date

More Big Names Let Go By WWE

On November 18, 2021, WWE shockingly released yet another crop of talented stars from their contracts. The following wrestlers are, as of yesterday, no longer with the company.

- John Morrison

- Jaxson Ryker

- Tegan Nox

- Top Dolla

- Isaiah "Swerve" Scott

- Ashante Adonis

- Drake Maverick

- Shane Thorne

Names like John Morrison and the remaining members of Hit Row came as a huge surprise to many fans. Morrison had been engaged in a long-term partnership with the Miz since his return in 2019 and has had two featured matches at WrestleMania, a triple threat ladder match in 2020 and a tag team match against Bad Bunny 2021. It was after this second match that his partnership with the Miz dissolved. Many hoped that he would have a singles run, but there never was one. Morrison's release comes after his wife's (Taya Valkyrie) release over two weeks ago. She has commented on her husband's firing, blasting WWE.

Hit Row debuted on SmackDown just last month and fought in only one match against enhancement talent. A week after their debut, their female member, B-fab, was released as part of the last string of releases. The faction would then have two more featured spots in what was thought to be the start of a storyline program with Sami Zayn before their unceremonious dismissal.

Drake maverick was active in the 24/7 title scene and worked with stars such as R-truth and Akira Tozawa to capture the green belt. He had not been featured as much before that and was on his second run with the company, having been previously released in the first set of cuts back in 2020. The star has since released a video on his Twitter account reassuring himself from a video he posted after his release last year that he will still have a great career and continue to wrestle.

Stars like Tegan Nox, Shane Thorne, Jaxson Ryker have not been featured since their call-ups from NXT. Tegan, who has now changed her name back to Nixon Newell, was in a tag team with Shotzi Blackheart this past year, where they had victories against the women's tag team champions without ever getting a shot at the titles. Unfortunately, after being drafted to separate brands, we would not see Tegan again. Shane Thorne was briefly a part of the short-lived faction Retribution last year, but he had not appeared on television since the group's dissolution. He is a former member of the tag team The Mighty with Mikey Nicholls, who currently wrestles for New Japan Pro-Wrestling as a member of the Chaos faction. Perhaps the two will reunite?

Jaxson Ryker has had some ups and downs since his main roster call-up. Having started as a member of the Forgotten Sons faction, he would soon fall into obscurity after the team was pulled from television and would only make sporadic appearances until he briefly joined up with WWE superstar Elias as his bodyguard. The two would turn on each other and have a series of matches. Ryker would fade away yet again after the conclusion of the program. His last match was against Karrion Kross, who was also released in the previous firings.
